For my American Literature portfolio project, I was presented with a variety of topics to choose from. I knew that whatever I picked, I wanted it to be something I would enjoy, not something that is simply easy. In the end, I chose to look for works relating to invention. Now that all my portfolios have been written, I realize that I made the right choice in choosing invention. Invention is something that I can easily relate to because I enjoy creative writing so much.
In this blog post, I would like to discuss this very topic: invention. Creativity and innovation are both forms of intelligence. In an earlier blog post, I discussed how intelligence really cannot be measure. One of the reasons for this is because there are so many ways to be intelligent. Everyone is smart in his or her own way. Creativity is one of these ways and is, in my opinion, the most fun way to be intelligent. I’ve always loved creating stories in my head and just thinking about things that could be. Daydreaming is something that I quite enjoy.
Sometimes, however, imagining these things in my head just wasn't enough. I was never truly introduced to the thought of creative writing until third grade. My teacher gave us a list of random words or phrases and every once in a while we had to pick one and use it as inspiration to write something. After a few these exercises, I began to realize just how much I was enjoying it. Now, I write stories and ideas just for fun. Whenever an idea comes to mind, I jot it down before I forget.
Writing is a form of invention. Any kind of writing is, whether it be an essay, novel, or poem. Even the very blog post that I am writing now is an invention. We all are capable of inventing. Therefore, we all are intelligent in at least that respect.
Do you like to invent? If so, in what way? Do you enjoy writing? Painting? Drawing? Anything?
